Little Alfie Wins Points Decision & Jordan Wins Debut in 21 second KO!
Hythe Dragons put on a Fight Night on 4th June 2011 in Southampton. Fighting for SKA, was Alfie Sedgewick and Jordan McDowell. Alfie was up first and showed real improvements since our home show in April. Dominating the rounds with his jab and landing some great sidekicks to win the unanimous decision. Next up was 16 year old Jordan, in his first full contact match against Jamie Boyes from Hythe Dragons. Jordan came out like a bull in a china shop and took just 10 seconds to give Jamie a standing eight count. Straight after he landed a precise left hook that would have knocked anyone out. Jordan has serious power and we can’t wait to see him in action again on our next home show on 3rd September, he is the one to watch so get your tickets soon!

SKA Fight Night Packs the Pier – 2nd April 2011
SKA staged an action packed Fight Night at South Parade Pier in Portsmouth. The atmosphere was electric with a full house crowd. We had 13 well-matched entertaining fights with most people saying it was the best fight night they had seen in ages!! SKA would like to thank the following clubs from around the country who supported the show:
Walsall Black Belt Academy
Urban Kickboxing
SAMA Kickboxing Association
Hythe Dragons
Team Extreme
Relentless
Sharks KMA
Warrior FC
DKJ Martial Arts
Sukothai Bournemouth
MSA Portsmouth
Little Alfie In a Tough Match!
SKA’s 8 year old Alfie Sedgewick started the evening with a Junior Bout (no head contact) against a tough James Johnstone from Sukothai Bournemouth. Both boys showed real heart from bell to bell with good kicks and punches. It was obvious James was the stronger of the two but Alfie turned up to fight and was not put off by James’ power. James won by decision. With this being Alfie’s first fight he did us proud and it was a fantastic opening bout for an action packed evening ahead.
Ebonie is on Fire!
SKA’s 12 year old Ebonie Jones fought Lauren Lang from Walsall Black Belt Academy. Both girls started off a bit scrappy, with Ebonie making good use of her kicks. Ebonie threw a jump spinning crescent kick that just missed before catching Lauren with a spinning back kick that retired Lauren to her corner for a minute to recover. They continued fighting but it was clear Ebonie’s side kick and spinning back kicks were too accurate and she caught Lauren again which ended the fight. Even though it was a Junior Bout (controlled contact) if a spinning back kick lands, it can hurt! Lauren showed heart to mix it with Ebonie and no doubt she will be back in the future.
Martine wins by TKO

Martine Carter fought a tough Gemma James from Warrior FC (Wales). They both started swinging at each other but it was clear Martine was the stronger of the two. In an exchange of punches Gemma got a standing eight count. In Round 2, Gemma came out stronger than round one but Martine caught her with a Superman Punch followed by a couple of hooks that sent Gemma to one knee. As the ref started to count, the W arrior corner threw the towel in. A good, tough fight and a great result for Martine.
Darren Sheridan the New Champ!

Darren Sheridan fought Steven Smith from Team Extreme, Gloucester and was giving away a lot of height and reach but made up for it with his awkward style of side kick and pushing forward. The story from round one to round five was pretty much the same with Darren dominating with his side kick and punches. Steven turned up to fight and considering he had cut a lot of weight before the fight he put in a brave performance. At the end of the fifth round, Darren was declared by unanimous decision the new ISKA Southern Area Kickboxing Champion! Darren, we salute you.
Josh Losses Points Decision
SKA’s Josh Hawker fought Darren Binge from hythe dragons in what we thought would be a good match for Josh.
He started the first round good keeping busy with punches and kicks but then started to fade mid way point of the second round.
He was cutting the ring off nice and pushing forward but not throwing anything as Darren was scoring points on the back peddle.
In the third Darren came forward more aggressive and dominated the whole round. But to be fair to josh he has only started training back with SKA in the last three months. So we intend to keep him busy now and look forward to a future rematch!
SKA CLEARS UP SOUTH WEST KICKBOXING CHAMPIONSHIPS
Southern kickboxing Academy’s Darren Sheridan and Ebonie Jones travelled to yeovil on sunday the 19th of september to compete in the annual ISKA South West Kickboxing Championships.
Its not the usual circuit that SKA follow but after Ebonie lost a close decision in her five round british title fight two weeks earlier SKA needed to keep her busy before the rematch.
The day before the event darren said he would come up and have a go with no preperation.
They both entered the advance catorgery as there both SKA black belts ebonie had two fights against two boys her size and weight stopping the first boy with a jump spinning cresent kick and stopping the second boy with a spinning back kick. Ebonie fought for a total of 40 seconds to become the ISKA south west kickboxing champion 2010. Darren fought four fights against four class opponents but was to quick on his feet with acurate strikes cruising throw to become the ISKA south west kickboxing champion 2010.
2010 – Luke Redman & Ebonie Jones get their mini masters black belt.
On June 5th Luke Redman & Ebonie Jones attended the high grading for their mini masters black belt and both passed with flying colours with hundreds of kicks and punching combinations. 2 and a half minutes in the horse stance and 4 rounds of full contact sparring they showed true heart and determination to get their black. Luke got 253 kicks on springboard in 2 minutes and Ebonie got 260 thats a challenge any adult wont beat in a hurry. Well done you two!
2009 – Father and Son black belt together
On SKA’s last high grading 44 year old Richard Hendren and 16 year old Jamie Hendren took their black belt grading together after 7 years of trainingg with the academy. They are the two most dedicated students in the school and travel three times a week for training.Jamie previously was a mini masters black belt and Rich can still mix it up with twenty year olds inn sparring. Rich said it was the hardest thing hes ever done and Jamie now wants to step into the ring and start full contact so he will be making his debut in Weston Super Mare in December.
