SKA at Bracknell MMA show on July 15th |
On
the 15th July SKA travelled to Bracknell leisure centre.
Fighting for SKA was Jon Healey in his 2nd bout. After a
first round stoppage at the home show a month earlier Jon was keen
to keep busy. Unaware of the rules of the fight to our surprise it
was in an octagon cage with no foot or shinpads. Jon being Jon was
up for the fight. The SKA team were a little apprehensive at first
but with Jons aggressive style and his unwillingness to let his
supporters down he took the fight. His opponent was Rob Neisham. In
the first round Jon started off with hard punches and kicks and Rob
had to take a standing 8 count at the end of the round from a body
punch. To our surprise the round ended to save Neisham. Knowing his
man was hurt, the corner told Jon to work the body. There was more
of the same in the second round and Neisham had to take another
standing 8 count after another body shot. In the third round, Jon
had no respect for his opponent and showed Bulldog spirit by trying
to knock him out even though he was already clearly ahead on points.
In the end it was a unanimous decision and undefeated Jon is
looking forward to another fight under the same rules on our October
1st home show. Watch this space!

SKA puts full
contact on the map |
|
SKA
hosted its first full contact fight night at Ferneham hall on 18th
June. It was a busy night with a good line up. We had 3 of our own
fighters taking part. And they all did SKA proud. First up 13 year old Josh
Hawker who was in his 2nd fight. The pressure was on in
front of his home crowd to win because of a points loss a month
earlier. Both boys showed good skill and the fight ended in a draw.
Next up was Martine Becque who was making her debut against Zarina
Vidale. Most people in the crowd called it the fight of the night
with both girls wanting to win. Martine was the aggressor moving
forward all the time with Zarina scoring well on kicks. After 3
rounds of non-stop battling the fight was scored a draw. This will
make for a great rematch. Finally was SKAs Jon Healey versus Brett Argile. This was Jons debut. After sparring experience in the
paratroopers the SKA team knew Jon was ready for competition. After
a really aggressive start and a barrage of punches at 44 seconds of
the first round Jon caught Brett with a left hook that knocked him
sideways and on to the canvas. After he stood up it was apparent he
was concussed and the ref stopped the fight. Good first round TKO
for Jon on his debut |

Jason Eames is
first Junior Black Belt |
|
|
On the 10th June SKA held another Blue belt and above
high grading. This time 10 year old Jason Eames took his junior black
belt. After failing in his last grading he was determined to pass
this time. In the past 6 months Jason has really changed since his
last grading and it showed in this one. Congratulations to Jason in
becoming the first SKA junior black belt. |

Return to the Casino Rooms |
|
On the
14th may SKA were back at the casino rooms. This time
Darren Sheridan was back in action along with one of SKAs junior
fighters Josh Hawker. First up was 13 year old Josh who was making his
debut in another well-matched light contact belt. He took on George
Hennon from TKO kickboxing. Both fighters showed composure with good
technique. George won on points. Good fight. Next up was Darren
Sheridan. He took on Caesar Chamumerwa. Caesar came out bouncing
around the ring with his arms up in the air but we all know not to
judge a book by the cover. The first round was very scrappy with
Caesar flying at Darren not thinking about his shots. Darren caught
him with a side kick to the body that sent him down to the canvas.
At the end of the round and a few words from his corner to work his
front leg side kick it all paid off as Caesar came flying out again
he ran straight into the kick and was out on the canvas and failed
to beat the count. Good second round stoppage for Darren Sheridan. |

Sheridan wins
his debut |
|
|
On 26th feb the SKA fight team travelled
to the casino rooms in Rochester, Kent to see Darren Sheridan make
his debut. After years of semi contact experience and being one of
our SKA blackbelts, Darren felt it was time to pay his dues in the
ring. Darren took on Louis Lourcoubie in a well matched bout with
plenty of kicks from both fighters. Darren won the fight on a
majority points decision. A good win for the 19 year old SKA fighter.

Luke Carter takes WKA British Title |
|
|
On 16th
October 2005, Luke Carter beat Billy Gallop in the Circus Tavern,
Purfleet, Essex, to win the WKA British Super Welterweight
Championship belt.
Luke found Billy an awkward southpaw who was very evasive which
didn't make the fight a very exciting one. The fight went the
distance, 7 rounds and Luke was declared the winner on points. |
