Biased Decision
robs Healy At FX3
|
|
SKA were back at the Rivermead centre on the 7th July for another
amazing show put on by Paul and Simon James. This time it was Jon
Healy Vs. Nathan Ward everybody thought Jon was punching above his
weight taking this fight on as Nathan has had over a hundred amateur
boxing fights and fourteen pro fights 11-3.The first round saw
Nathan working his boxing skills as we expected the second saw Jon
working good kicks, which were unsettling Nathan by the third both
fighters were showing fatigue but Jon was still dominating.
At the end we thought Jon had won to be told it was a draw which
meant there would be a forth round! The fourth sore Jon step up a
gear to win the round with good high switch kicks and punches and we
knew Jon had won to be told it was a draw? Everybody we spoke to
afterwards said he was robbed and that he won. The next day Paul
(promoter) phoned Luke to tell him the fight had now been scored a
no contest? Nathan was very tough and showed warrior spirit but was
beat on the day. As for a rematch, who knows? |

Jon Healy
Losses Split Decision |
|
On the 10th March SKA were back at FX3 an MMA and cage kickboxing
show promoted by Paul and Simon James, this time it was in the Rivermead
Leisure Centre Reading.
Fighting for SKA was Jon Healy in
his first K1 rules kickboxing fight his opponent was local fighter
Damien Hamilton from Hurricane Warriors. We didn't think Damien's
legs would be ready for this type of fight because of his full
contact background (shin and feet pads) but he came to fight even
throwing a couple of jump spinning back kicks.
Jon spent most of the
fight working in close with the knee strikes to good effect but
Damien got the decision on the night. When tickets go on sale for
this rematch don't miss out!!

| Garcia wins
debut - Sheridan 4-0 |
|
On the 12th November the SKA fight team travelled to Plymouth.
It
was a great night put on by Wildkick and Taurus Promotions.
In action for SKA were Conner Garcia and Darren
Sheridan. This was Conner's debut against Adam O'Neil from GMAC and
he surprised us all. Conner has all the ability but lacks in
confidence however during his first bout he showed grit and
determination and even threw a jump spinning crescent kick at one
point! He concentrated on advice from the corner and did what we
said. The third round was all heart and all judges agreed with a
brilliant unanimous points win for the 17 year old first timer.
Darren Sheridan took on Mark Rowlett. On paper it looked like an
easy fight, Mark had had one fight and been stopped but Darren had 3
fights with 3 wins. We were wrong....... Mark put his combinations
together well and gave Darren a tough time. Darren being Darren
"Billy Elliott" was moving and scoring well on kicks. It was a good
fight to end a successful year for Darren, he is now undefeated at 4
- 0. We hope to get him fighting for a title next year on a home
show! |

Sheridans kicks
are too slick |
On 28th October SKA travelled to Weston Super Mare to
another packed house promoted by Stuart Davies. Fighting for SKA was Darren Sheridan in his third
bout. He took on a very tough opponent in Mike Nudd from Touch
Gloves in Cornwall.
After hearing about Mike stopping his last
opponent in the first round four weeks earlier we knew it wasn't
going to be an easy ride. The first round was as we expected it with
Mike coming forward aggressively with hard punches and Darren trying
to settle into the fight using his kicks.
The second round saw more of the same and by the third Mike just
didn't have an answer to Darren's kicks.
Another good fight with a good work rate from both fighters and another points win for Darren
Sheridan whose new nickname is "Billy Elliott".

SKA at Bracknell MMA show on July 15th |
On
the 15th July SKA travelled to Bracknell leisure centre.
Fighting for SKA was Jon Healey in his 2nd bout. After a
first round stoppage at the home show a month earlier Jon was keen
to keep busy. Unaware of the rules of the fight to our surprise it
was in an octagon cage with no foot or shin pads. Jon being Jon was
up for the fight. The SKA team were a little apprehensive at first
but with Jon's aggressive style and his unwillingness to let his
supporters down he took the fight. His opponent was Rob Neisham.
In
the first round Jon started off with hard punches and kicks and Rob
had to take a standing 8 count at the end of the round from a body
punch. To our surprise the round ended to save Neisham. Knowing his
man was hurt, the corner told Jon to work the body. There was more
of the same in the second round and Neisham had to take another
standing 8 count after another body shot. In the third round, Jon
had no respect for his opponent and showed true SKA spirit by trying
to knock him out even though he was already clearly ahead on points.
In the end it was a unanimous decision and undefeated Jon is
looking forward to another fight under the same rules on our October
1st home show. Watch this space!

SKA puts full
contact on the map |
|
SKA
hosted its first full contact fight night at Ferneham hall on 18th
June. It was a busy night
with a good line up. We had 3 of our own fighters taking part. And
they all did SKA proud. First up 13 year old Josh Hawker who was in
his 2nd fight. The pressure was on in front of his home
crowd to win because of a points loss a month earlier. Both boys
showed good skill and the fight ended in a draw.
Next
up was Martine Becque who was making her debut against Zarina Vidale.
Most people in the crowd called it the fight of the night with both
girls wanting to win. Martine was the aggressor moving forward all
the time with Zarina scoring well on kicks. After 3 rounds of
non-stop battling the fight was scored a draw. This will make for a
great rematch.
Finally was SKAs Jon Healey versus Brett Argile. This
was Jons debut. After sparring experience in the paratroopers the
SKA team knew Jon was ready for competition. After a really
aggressive start and a barrage of punches at 44 seconds of the first
round Jon caught Brett with a left hook that knocked him sideways
and on to the canvas. After he stood up it was apparent he was
concussed and the ref stopped the fight. Good first round TKO for
Jon on his debut.

Jason Eames is
first Junior Black Belt |
|
On the 10th June SKA held another Blue belt and above
high grading. This time 10 year old Jason Eames took his junior
black belt.
After failing in his last grading he was determined to
pass this time. In the past 6 months Jason has really changed since
his last grading and it showed in this one.
Congratulations to Jason
in becoming the first SKA junior black belt. |

Return to the Casino Rooms |
|
On
the 14th may SKA were back at the casino rooms. This time
Darren Sheridan was back in action along with one of SKAs junior
fighters Josh Hawker. First up was 13 year old Josh who was making
his debut in another well-matched light contact belt. He took on
George Hennon from TKO kickboxing. Both fighters showed composure
with good technique. George won on points. Good fight. Next up was
Darren Sheridan. He took on Caesar Chamumerwa. Caesar came out
bouncing around the ring with his arms up in the air but we all know
not to judge a book by the cover. The first round was very scrappy
with Caesar flying at Darren not thinking about his shots. Darren
caught him with a side kick to the body that sent him down to
the canvas. At the end of the round and a few words from his corner
to work his front leg side kick it all paid off as Caesar came
flying out again he ran straight into the kick and was out on the
canvas and failed to beat the count. Good second round stoppage for
Darren Sheridan. |

Sheridan wins his
debut |
|
On 26th
feb the SKA fight team travelled
to the casino rooms in Rochester, Kent to see Darren Sheridan make
his debut. After years of semi contact experience and being one of
our SKA blackbelts, Darren felt it was time to pay his dues in the
ring.
Darren took on Louis Lourcoubie in a well matched bout with
plenty of kicks from both fighters. Darren won the fight on a
majority points decision. A good win for the 19 year old SKA
fighter.

Luke Carter takes WKA British Title |
|
On 16th October
2005, Luke Carter beat Billy Gallop in the Circus Tavern, Purfleet,
Essex, to win the WKA British Super Welterweight Championship belt.
Luke found Billy an awkward southpaw who was very evasive which
didn't make the fight a very exciting one. The fight went the
distance, 7 rounds and Luke was declared the winner on points.
