SKA Competitions
Interclub Tournaments
SKA will be running semi-contact tournaments throughout the year
for people who have never fought before. Semi-contact means light
contact so you don't have to worry about getting hurt. It is a good
way for the novice fighter to build confidence in their ability and
to gain experience of fighting in front of a crowd for the first
time. SKA Interclubs are based on full contact rules (but light
contact) above waist kicks and no spinning back fists. Students
compete in a full size boxing ring to teach them ring craft and all
students must be at least green belt to compete. Scoring: two fighters fight continuously for 1.5 minutes. There
are three judges around the ring with brown and
white flags. At the end of the round the judges lift the flag of
the fighter that they thought had the best technical ability and control. If one judge scores the fight a draw and the other two
score brown and white then the decision is with the referree to say
who had the best technical ability and control they are the winner.
All fighters must wear all of the following safety equipment:
- Head Guard
- Gum Shield
- Gloves (10oz Boxing Gloves)
- Groin Guard
- Feet Pads
- Shin Pads
Full Contact Kickboxing
Full contact kickboxing is for the more experienced fighter. SKA
advises students to participate in a semi-contact tournament before
moving on to full contact. We have a fully equiped gym available
for fighters with a ring, bags, ceiling to floor balls and mirrors
with a shadow boxing area. Squad training is on Saturdays.
We do regular trips to away fight nights and SKA are hosting our own
shows in Portsmouth!
Fighters are trained one-to-one and put under a gruelling schedule
eight weeks before a fight to ensure they are fully prepare, mentally
and physically.
SKA work with several different promoters across the UK so there
are always regular fights available and fair matched opponents.
We can arrange title fights for those who excel in the ring.
